A montage of colour photographs of volunteers (all women) working on archive collections.About the archive

Our collections span eight hundred years, and contain material as diverse as medieval manuscripts, early modern leases, 1940s school books, sixteenth-century spectacles and over a century of sports photographs.

Our holdings come under five broad categories:

Medieval and Tudor:  Fragments of an illuminated manuscript dating to the early thirteenth century, plus over forty documents relating to land ownership in County Durham and North Yorkshire.

Guisborough Hospital: This is our largest holding, with documents and objects relating to the free school and almshouses founded in 1561 by Robert Pursglove.

Guisborough Grammar School: Documents and objects from Guisborough Grammar School, dating from the 1880s until 1971.

Prior Pursglove College: Documents and objects relating to Prior Pursglove College, from 1971 to present.

Guisborough: We also have several items that relate more widely to Gisborough Priory and to the town.

To browse the archive, hover your mouse over 'Archives' on the black menu bar, and the options will appear.

Please note that some of the material under Guisborough Grammar School and Prior Pursglove College is covered by the Data Protection Act, and will not appear on this website.

We are very grateful for the work undertaken by our volunteers, who have kindly donated their time and efforts to helping with the project. The pictures on the right show some of our volunteers at work, including (top, left to right) Jenny Bird and Hannah Bird.
