One year before founding his free grammar school and almshouses in Guisborough, Robert Pursglove founded a grammar school in his home village of Tideswell, Derbyshire.
Below is a picture of the grammar school's seal and badge, which shows Robert Pursglove under a gothic canopy. It is the same shape as the seal of Guisborough Hospital, but has a different design.
The grammar school in Tideswell closed in 1930, but Robert Pursglove's legacy survives in the name of the Bishop Pursglove Primary School in Tideswell.
The grammar school building also survives. Its listing information is here, and further information can be found here.
With thanks to Mr W. N. Thompson, who collected this material during his time at Prior Pursglove College. The original photograph and picture of the badge can be found at Z78 in the college archive.
