Albert Winfield

Albert Winfield of Skelton was born on 16 March 1899 and enrolled at Guisborough Grammar School on 23 September 1913, eventually becoming a Pupil Teacher.

Albert enlisted on 18th April 1917, serving as a Private in the 10th Battalion West Yorkshire Regiment, The Prince of Wales Own. He was sent to France in April 1918 and died on 20 September 1918, aged 19. He is buried in the Gauche Wood Cemetery at Villers-Guislain.

His name is recorded on the Grammar School’s War Honours Board — alongside the names of all of the Grammar School’s alumni to die in the First and Second World Wars.
