Frank Roper was born on 5 July 1917 and attended the School between September 1930 and July 1933.
During the Second World War, Frank served in the Royal Navy as an Able Seaman on board HM Boom Defence Vessel Othello.
Frank died on 11 April 1941, aged 23, when his ship was sunk by a mine in the Humber Estuary as the Navy battled to keep the port open.
He is remembered on Portsmouth Naval Memorial which commemorates those members of the Royal Navy who have no known grave but the sea.
His name is also recorded on the Grammar School’s War Honours Board — alongside the names of all of the Grammar School’s alumni to die in the First and Second World Wars.
