George Allison

George Allison was born on 12 April 1895 and joined the School on 1 May 1907.

George played football for the School and was described as “as a player who dribbles well and who, with more weight, would be very successful”. George is picture here, aged 16, in the School XI for the 1911/1912 season.  George Allison

He left School on 25 May 1912 and later enlisted in the Royal Fusiliers, serving as a Private in ‘D’ Company, 23rd Battalion during World War I.

George died on 1 August 1916, aged 21, during the Battle of The Somme and is buried in the cemetery at Le Neuville. His name is recorded on the Grammar School’s War Honours Board — alongside the names of all of the Grammar School’s alumni to die in the First and Second World Wars.
