George Thompson was born on 23 October 1894 and attended Guisborough Grammar School between September 1907 and December 1911.
George left the School having gained his Preliminary and Junior certificates with additional certificates in Latin and Mathematics.
He served in World War I as a Corporal in the Royal Garrison Artillery and died at home from the effects of enemy gas in March 1919, aged 25.
His name is recorded on the Grammar School’s War Honours Board — alongside the names of all of the Grammar School’s alumni to die in the First and Second World Wars.
