George Waite was born on 26 November 1918 and enrolled at the School on 17 September 1930. George was a school prefect and a member of both the Cricket and Football XIs.
He left School in 1937 and after a course at Bede College, Durham, secured a post as a teacher at South Bank.
George entered the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve as a Sergeant (Pupil Pilot) in June 1940.
He died on 28 November 1940, aged 21, and is buried in a Commonwealth War Grave at Loftus Cemetery.
His name is also recorded on the Grammar School’s War Honours Board — alongside the names of all of the Grammar School’s alumni to die in the First and Second World Wars.
