John Robert Leckenby

John Leckenby was born on 28 April 1893 and attended Guisborough Grammar School between September 1905 and July 1909.

During World War I, John served as a Private in the York and Lancaster Regiment.

John died on 9 October 1917, aged 24, and is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial which bears the names of almost 35,000 officers and men who have no known grave but lie in Flanders field.

His name is also recorded on the Grammar School’s War Honours Board — alongside the names of all of the Grammar School’s alumni to die in the First and Second World Wars.
