Thomas Edward Jarvis

Thomas Jarvis was born on 18 May 1914 and attended the School between January 1924 and April 1932.

During World War II, Thomas served as a Leading Airman with the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm and he was killed on 1 June 1941 aged 27.

The principal base of the Fleet Air Arm, Lee-on-the-Solent, Hampshire, was chosen as the site for the memorial to almost 2,000 men of the Fleet Air Arm who died during the Second World War and who have no known grave.

Thomas Jarvis is one of the men commemorated there and his name is also recorded on the Grammar School’s War Honours Board — alongside the names of all of the Grammar School’s alumni to die in the First and Second World Wars.
