This is our earliest athletics programme. It was produced in 1893, at Stockeld's stationers in Guisborough.

The image shows boys from Guisborough Grammar School participating in a game of tug of war. We do not know the names of those involved, or indeed who won.

This photograph shows people watching the events of the year’s sports day. We can even see a boy and a girl stood on the bench at the back to get a better look.
The college (then grammar school) is clearly recognisable behind the event and we can faintly see the top of St Nicholas church to the right of the photograph.
